Origin and evolution of Tantra

The origin of Tantra goes back to caveman and their representations, are already present in the paintings.

Background:

The Stone Age has left evidence of devotion to the woman and her erotic and fertile power through representations painted on cave walls, with apparent magical and sexual symbolism
have also found numerous statuettes of Venus with sexual, overly highlighted attributes.
All these representations, dating from ancient times relate to the worship of the mother goddess, which focuses on women as bearers of magical powers and fruitful.

Evolution:

From these origins, which are incorporated shamanic cults and magic comes the Tantra , as a cultural current that has evolved with humanity and whose existence can be traced, at the origin of most Eastern cultures. Their arrival in Europe in the Middle Ages, it was through the Knights Templar, who learned of the tantric traditions, in their expeditions crossed the East. Starting the third century, beginning early writings of deep symbolic meaning and understanding difficult, interpretable only to the initiated. 's heyday of Tantra in India occurred in the XI and XII century, amid a burgeoning bourgeois society, a refined and philosophical form, which detracted from its true origins. Tantric texts known were written in Vedic India, at the height of patriarchal power and therefore, the interpretation made of the old tradition was distorted. Thereby, they lived at the time:

  • one bourgeois tantra worship and the service of powerful men with many women at his disposal.
  • one popular tantra taking place in isolated places and used the magical power of sex, for concrete things, in which the woman was initiated.

Today, we talk about Neotantra , to refer to a reintrepretación of ancient tradition, according to the modern Western mind.
